Musicians On The Metro

When travelling in cities that have a metro as a form a public transport, I’ve often encountered buskers, trying to earn a few pennies, playing to the commuters. Most of the time, they are entertaining and skilled, but I’ve found that their hats go empty when they come past asking for money.

What strikes me most is how they are so often ignored. Sometimes there is a smattering of applause, but in general passengers continue to look at the floor or their phones, headphones in or trying to ignore what they perceive as an irritating distraction. Lots of us are lost in our own worlds, ignoring others and shutting out distractions, even when it is something wonderful, like live music.

Who will you make the effort to connect and listen to today?
