Some people are generous in giving their time to others. They serve, are compassionate and try to put others first. Other people sit and listen, receiving wisdom from others. They are eager to learn, using other’s experience to help them in their own growth.
The danger comes when one of the two is neglected.
If all we do is give, then we burn out and become exhausted. Neglecting ourselves for others works in the short term, but in the long term this helps nobody. If all we do is receive we become greedy and selfish. Everything and everyone becomes an object for us to use and consume.
We need to find a balance between the two. Knowing that only by receiving can we give. If we see everything we receive as a gift, then we can be full of gratitude. We become conduits and can channel these gifts to others.
Are you a giver or a receiver?
