Seeing Yourself In Others

I went for a coffee with a friend the other day and something in the conversation really struck me.

I’m a bit older than my friend. It was a sort of strange déjà-vu moment. I saw myself  having a similar conversation with an old friend a few years ago. I remember going to them for advise and wisdom. My friend had a look in their eye that said they really valued what I had to say – what a responsibility we have with our words!

My heart went out to my friend because they were telling me about a situation that sadly sounded all too familiar. In that moment it made me realise that we are not all that different. We all have our ups and downs, our joys and struggles. We are all participating in this journey of figuring out what it means to be human.

We are all connected as people. What we dislike in others, we dislike in ourselves. And what we appreciate in others, we must know dwells within us too.
