I had to go to the doctors last week and I was prescribed some medicine to collect. When I got to the pharmacy, I was shocked at first by how much a simple remedy was going to cost me.
“I’m a student. I can’t afford that!”
I immediately thought. Then, as I walked back through the Newcastle city centre, I reflected on both the poverty and the development.
In other parts of the world and even here in Newcastle, there are those who have no access to medicine and healthcare at all. I was annoyed at myself for complaining about a small cost in the grand scheme of things, compared to the cost of someone losing a loved one due to not having access to medicine for them. Medicine that I take for granted.
What was the last thing that reminded you to appreciate the things easily taken for granted?
