How can we expect to have a relationship with others if we do not love ourselves first?
A friend said that to me in a conversation and it had a profound effect. It’s a frightening thought. That with all our wounds and past mistakes we can be loved. We’re afraid of the “shadow” places within ourselves and we don’t like them. We try to deny and hide them, putting on a mask (which is necessary for a time) so no-one can see them.
But then along comes someone who disarms us completely and sees straight through the mask to our True Self within. When someone sees us and mirrors us so honestly, we’re filled with utter joy and comfort.
Do we dare to accept those “shadow” parts of ourselves that someone else acknowledges, allows and accepts?
