Steve Jobs once said, “we’re here to dent the universe” – to make an impact and to do something that matters. I like to think we all want to make a difference in the world and change something for the better. When we’re younger our imaginations run wild with ideas about what we can do. But it seems as we grow older, that hope and creativity can be choked by the world and its challenges. I know for me, it’s easy to get bogged down in the moment. I’ve found that it’s hard to see at times where I’m going in the future or what vision I really have – it seems to change often and I can lose heart.
But I think Steve Jobs is right about denting the universe. We can all make a difference in our own way. Life is a long term, but it’s made up of lots of short terms and we can keep doing our little it each day to “chip away” at our universe.
As Mother Teresa said, “we cannot all do great things” – we may not have the monumental impact and fame of people like Steve Jobs – but “we can do small things with great love”. That I believe is one way we can all change the world.
What small thing can you do with great love today?
