A friend told me that one of their old teachers used to write that phrase on their students’ work when marking.

BOD = Benefit of the Doubt

It meant their answer wasn’t quite right, but they gave them the benefit of the doubt. It wouldn’t necessarily help for exam mark schemes, but it helped the students on their journey of learning.

We need to give people around us the benefit of the doubt more often. It’s hard, especially when someone has wronged us or is making things difficult for us. But it will make the relationships we have with those around us a lot more fruitful, if we can be gentle with our words and look for the good in others.

Is there someone you need to give the benefit of the doubt in your life?
