It’s sad that we live in a world where we have to film everything to prove anything.
I was reflecting on this after watching the clip of British Athlete, Bianca Williams, being pulled over by the London Met Police last week.
The footage was quite alarming of the “Stop and Search”, which by UK Law, can only be done if there are “reasonable grounds” that someone is carrying illegal drugs, stolen property, a weapon or something that could be used to commit a crime.
Williams and her husband were handcuffed and searched for 45 minutes, while their 3 months old son was in the car. A police statement has said that there was no concern regarding the officers’ conduct.
It makes you wonder about the impact of technology in crime. What about the incidents that aren’t filmed?
We live in a culture of such deep mistrust. It’s sad that we feel like we have to prove everything with evidence.
Was this an example of institutional racism? What do you think? Read the story here.
