“Keep your expectations low to avoid disappointment.”

That’s what I was once told. But expectations are powerful.

When certain things are expected of us, it demands high standards, punctuality, efficiency and hard work.

Expectations can improve our performance, but we also need to be realistic with them.

If we are aiming for perfection, we will eventually fail and be disappointed. We should aim to be great and do great work, but perfection is unattainable. We will always think we can do more and we will be left unsatisfied.

Instead, it takes humility to say: “This is my best work. But tomorrow I will strive for more”.

What do you expect of yourself?
