A Trust Economy

A friend was telling me how Depop users manipulate their purchases, so they can demand a refund whilst still having received the item.

If a parcel isn’t sent by tracked mail and arrives, these people message the seller to tell them that the parcel hasn’t arrived.

If there’s no proof of postage, the seller is obliged to refund the buyer. It then takes them even longer to get their money back because it’s difficult to get a refund through Royal Mail.

This sort of manipulation is about the economy of trust that we live in. We would rather be stingy and have a mentality of scarcity because we think we can earn a bit more money.

An abundance mentality means there is plenty to go around for everyone. We build our relationships on trust and generosity.

We can choose to create and build trust or take short cuts on others. This sort of manipulation works in the short term, but in the long term, simply burns trust.
