“You Matter”

A question Tim Ferriss often asks his podcast guests is what message they would put on a billboard – if the billboard was huge and they could only share one message or slogan with as many people as possible.

I was chatting to a friend the other day about what their message would be and this was their answer:

“You matter to someone”

A simple, but powerful message.

They told me that it would be this because the message is both humbling and hopeful. It could be a reminder to people who think they’re “a bit too big for their boots”. It brings us down a peg or two because we can get carried away striving for status, fame and attention from as many people as possible.

On the other hand, it would also be hopeful because for some of us, it’s sometimes hard to imagine that we matter to anyone. In our darkest moments, we might wonder what the world would be like without us.

But this ignores the unique contribution we’re all here to give.

There is only one of Me and and one of You.

Sometimes, we just need to be reminded that we matter to Someone. There is always someone out there who we matter to – who loves us, who cares for us, who wants the best for us, who needs us, who would miss us.

Sometimes we just need to be reminded that we matter. So we can go and bring our contribution to others and the world.
