I’ve recently bought a membership for a language learning app because it was on offer. I’ve never spent money on apps or courses before. I do think language learning can be done for free and in my experience, I’ve not needed to pay “extra” because I’ve paid for learning through travel or university.
But it’s curious because I feel like this purchase may motivate me to move to the next level.
When we make a financial commitment, it’s a motivation for us to pursue something. We don’t want to feel like we’ve wasted our money.
Is this the same as when we waste time? Is time more valuable than money?
I wonder whether we make more of effort with something we’ve invested in because we don’t want to feel like we’re missing out.
Is a financial motivation a good thing or can it be too binding? What things have you paid for that you feel like you’ve committed to?
