Over the last few months, in an attempt to train for another Camino de Santiago in the summer (we can hope!), I’ve been going for long walks on weekends.
I’ve found this times a very fruitful way to clear my head, especially when I’ve felt trapped inside during lockdown.
It’s strange because I never used to be a big walker or enjoy long distances, but since doing the Camino de Santiago with my Dad in 2018, I’ve discovered a love for spending hours hiking outside.
For me, it’s an escape from the busyness of my week. It’s a chance to step back from the day-to-day hustle. This was amplified, when spending four weeks walking with my Dad in the hills and mountains of Northern Spain.
I know when I’ve been stuck inside for days and weeks, stressed and distracted by work obligations, deadlines and to-do lists, a long hike and time spent in the outdoors helps me to come back more focused and energised.
When was the last time you went on a long hike?
How much time do you spend outside?
