Making plans for the future is exciting. The process can be filled with hope, passion and energy but also fear.
There needs to be tension between the two sides. If the emotional balance is out of sync, things can go wrong.
Too much fear can freeze our decision-making. We’re filled with anxiety and worry. The “What Ifs” run free in our minds and we begin to doubt ourselves.
Likewise, too much passion can lead us to overlook what’s reasonable, sensible and the very real concerns.
Often, the fear is not unfounded. This is our ancient Lizard Brain speaking and wants to keep us safe. But it needs help. It needs to be acknowledged gently and reasoned out by thinking, reflection, listening and advice.
As ever, it’s about finding a balance.
How do you plan for the future?
