I’ve written about this before, but I sometimes struggle to be present with others. I always look back on these days and kick myself for missing Quality Time because I’ve been distracted, stressed or “elsewhere” in my thoughts.
It was a close friend’s birthday recently, and I tried hard to make the day memorable. I wanted to make it special and gave a lot of energy to make this happen.
But, on reflection, in my stress to make it “perfect”, I forgot to be present.
This is the best gift we can give to those we love – our time and our presence, undivided and outpouring – yet, in the “busyness” to arrange the other “presents”, I perhaps forgot what’s most essential.
I need to come back to this simplicity. I need to find joy in simply giving my time to others.
